Taking a page from VanCanOpEd’s book, I’m bringing back the Frappr map I created a while ago. I had it up but neglected to announce it so not many people joined and I took the link down. We’re interested in where you guys are geographically so, if you have a second, stick a pin in the map!
I’ve added it back to the sidebar as well. Thanks!

Also, while I’m at it, I’ll point out the other VanCanOpEd-inspired new button on the sidebar: the “Send me an Odeo” button. This allows you to send me voicemail. So if you have comments and/or rants, try it out.

Hard to believe it’s been three years today since I started this thing. We’ve come a long way from this:
My first post…… Things are going well with the Wings, they won last night (beat the Pens 5-1) and have won 5 in a row. They’re still #1 in the West but 2 points behind Ottawa still. Zata didn’t get a point last night, neither did Hully or Pavel. Luc finally scored and Feds had 2.posted by Matt Saler @ 3/19/2003 08:13:03 PM
Still, I could practically use the same words to describe the situation now:
My first post…… Things are going well with the Wings, they won last night (beat the [Oilers 4-3 in a shootout]) and have won 5 in a row. They’re still #1 in the West [and are now 1 point ahead of] Ottawa [for the league lead]. [Pavel] didn’t get a point last night, neither did [Shanny] or [Lang]. [Chelios] finally scored and [Hank] had 2, [though one came during the shootout and doesn't count].
Three years of On the Wings. Wow. All because I read this article and became curious about weblogging. So, I started my own, where I could put one of my favorite pass-times into written form: talking about Red Wings hockey.
Thanks to Brian, Christy and now Kevin for joining up and helping out. Thanks to you readers for coming back and reading what we have to say about our favorite team. I hope this site can be a great resource in years to come as we think back over our favorite memories of different seasons, of the players that made up the team, and of the games that stood out.
Forgot to mention this earlier: I will be a guest on the show tonight, at about 9:45.

I’ve been so distracted and disconnected from the site over the past couple weeks that I completely missed the fact that the site feed is not working properly. I have no idea why that is and I have fired off an email to the Blogger people to find out what the problem might be. They don’t seem to be very prompt in replying (if they do at all) so it could be a while. In the meantime, I will think of something, so we have at least some sort of feed being published. Sorry.
Update (6:24 PM): Okay, I think it may be fixed now. Just testing to make sure.
Update (6:32 PM): Looks like it is. Whew!
OtW is hosting the 19th Carnival of the NHL and we’re dubbing it the “Steve Yzerman Edition,” in honor of one of hockey’s greatest players.
Because Yzerman is “The Captain,” we’d like to see your thoughts on your team’s captain. What do you know about him, why is he captain, how does he lead, has there ever been a specific instance in which he sparked your team on in an important game, etc. If you have something you’d like to write about Yzerman, we’d love to see that too.
The Carnival, the second we’ve hosted, will take place on Monday the 13th of February. Please submit your contribution by 11:59 PM on the 12th (Sunday night).
Update (08. Feb): Remember bloggers, we need your submissions by midnight Sunday night if the Carnival is going to open on Monday.
Update (12. Feb): I have to delay the Carnival for a few more days. I’ve got too much to do for school and won’t be able to get to it until this weekend. The deadline is extended until Friday night and the Carnival will take place on Saturday, the 18th.
Update (17. Feb, 9:25 PM): A reminder, if you haven’t submitted anything yet, you have and a half hours or so to get something in. Well, really until I get up tomorrow to do the Carnival but you get the idea.
Because of a continuing problem, I am changing the site feed to publish excerpts rather than full text for the time being.
Another site, which I will not validate by linking to, is pulling OtW content without ever asking permission and though I defined the terms under which they could use our stuff, they are not following those terms.
This site is using our site feed to display the full text of our posts without giving us credit and making money off of our intellectual property. So, I am going to do what I can to put an end to it and going to excerpts is a start.
I’m sorry but I’m not willing to have someone else profit from our hard work. I hate having to click through in my blog-reader too, believe me. This is only temporary.
You know who you are. I told you what was acceptable and you have not complied. Take down the OtW content you have stolen and stop ripping us off.
No preview today and no summary either, unless one of my comrades in blogging is up to doing one.
I’ve contracted a case of “Blogger’s Burnout Syndrome” and so posting will be a little sporadic for a while.
I’d hoped to make it until the Olympic Break but it’s starting to sink in that I have a whole heck of a lot to do for school and that putting out content fairly constantly is pretty draining.
Anyway, I’d do a summary tonight but I will not be able to watch the game since I have a meeting.
I’m not taking a break altogether but as I said, things may be more sporadic.
For now, check out Abel to Yzerman for views on the game.
