After three and a half years of being hosted by Blogger, ‘On the Wings’ moved to its own domain and switched to WordPress on October 24th, 2006. I’m in the process of categorizing all the posts, but it’ll take a while as I have over 1,000 to go. (More site history to come)

The Staff
Matt: owner, editor/writer (onthewings@onthewingsblog.com)
– Over the years I’ve had several online efforts, from a site on AltaVista, to the Globe, to Yahoo! Groups, to Tripod to Blogger. None have been very successful until now and I think this will be my permanent online home. The blog is just too good a way to disseminate information to abandon.
– 22, male, born in Anaheim, California, born-again Christian. Live in Farmington Hills, MI when I’m not in Grand Rapids studying history at Cornerstone University, where I’m currently a senior. I attended Farmington High School, where I was a four-year scholar athlete and a three-time letterman in football. I earned the DAR American History Award my senior year after taking all but one of the history classes offered by FHS and graduated high honors. I first attended William Tyndale College but after that school closed December 2004, I transfered to CU, where I’min my final semester. I’m looking to have a career in news/sports writing or editing.
– I’ve been a serious fan of the Wings since the 94-95 season and generally watch every game. The lockout made me somewhat bitter but I just want my Red Wings back and I don’t care any more what the league looks like. I’ve been to seven Red Wings games over the years (one exhibition, five regular season and one playoff game).
– Other than hockey, I am interested in college football (UM, of course) and the Lions (moderately). I’m good at hackey sack and wish I had someone to do it with more often. I’m a big reader of JRR Tolkien as well as CS Lewis’ fiction. Beyond that, I read mostly history books (British history, lately). I subscribe to Wired magazine and need to renew my The Hockey News subscription.
– As for music, I like just all kinds of stuff, except rap and country. My time at WTC opened my eyes to classical music (thanks to Music Appreciation) so Bach, Mozart, Handel, Beethoven, Copeland, etc. Beyond that, I listen to The Killers, The Strokes, The Shins, The White Stripes, Third Eye Blind, Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, Snow Patrol, Bush, CCR and the like. In other words, what you hear on 89X, 94.7 and the WRIF in Detroit.
– When in Grand Rapids at school, I study and do homework, spend time with my friends and girlfriend, Megan, attend church at the Church of the Redeemer, and drive up and down the Beltline. I also spend time on this site as much as I can.
Brian: senior writer (bjredwing@hotmal.com)
I’ve collaborated with Matt on a few other sites, from altavista to the globe to yahoo to tripod to blogger.
– 22, male, born in Royal Oak, Michigan. Live in Farmington Hills, Michigan when I’m not in college at the University of Michigan. Junior majoring in mechanical engineering, graduated from North Farmington ‘03 #1 in class. Spent this past summer in Sumter, South Carolina with an internship.
– In college, I’m involved in the Michigan Solar Car Team (we got #1 in the North American Solar Challenge), undergraduate Research Opportunity Program, and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. When I’m not in class or busy from these activities, the likelihood is that I’m watching, posting on this blog, or thinking about hockey.
– Known as bjredwing on most message boards. I have season tickets to Michigan football and hockey, and have been a diehard Red Wings fan since 1994. I spent the lockout reading hockey blogs and refreshing TSN, and wore an “All I Want For Christmas is a Hockey Season” shirt during the Fall/Winter.
– Outside of hockey, hobbies include videogames (Gran Turismo, Mario, Unreal Tournament), billiards, hackey-sack, and reading any books by Roald Dahl. I played soccer for 11 years, high school marching band for 4 years.
– I prefer alternative rock (Nirvana, Green Day, The White Stripes, Third Eye Blind, My Chemical Romance, Bush, Straylight Run), lighter rock (Snow Patrol, Coldplay) and Christian rock/contemporary (Creed, Thousand Foot Krutch, Switchfoot, MercyMe, Phillips Craig & Dean, Rebecca St James, Michael W. Smith, Rich Mullins). Favorite radio stations are 89X (Windsor, Ontario) and WMHK (Columbia, SC).

- 21, born at Sinai Hospital in Detroit, currently living in the suburbs of Detroit, born-again Christian. I just graduated from Detroit CountryDay and am heading to the University of Michigan (Go Blue!) where I’ll be majoring in Movement Science and taking pre-med classes. In high school, I was sports editor and later Assistant Editor-in-Chief for our award winning newspaper, The Day Times. I used to play basketball and run track (6th in the region for 100m dash), but I’ve had six knee surgeries and no longer can run. I’m currently waiting for a meniscus transplant and ACL revision.
- Since I can’t play sports anymore, I throw all my passion for sports into following the Detroit Red Wings. I’ve been a fan of the Wings ever since I can remember, but it wasn’t until the past few years where I’ve become, well, obsessed. I’ve had the amazing opportunities to interview Kris Draper, Jason Williams, Denise Ilitch (the Alternate Governor at the time), and Jim Nill (Wings Asst. GM). I also attended two Red Wings practices in the 2003-2004 season and High School Journalist Day at the Joe where we participated in a mock press conference with the coaches, members of the media, and three players (Draper, Williams, & Mark Mowers).
- When I’m not talking about hockey, I enjoy hanging out with my friends, listening to quality music (Switchfoot, Thousand Foot Krutch, Relient K, etc.), scrapbooking, and watching great TV shows like 24 and House. I enjoy reading books about medicine (like Complications, Walking Out on the Boys, The Intern Blues) and sports (The Perfect Mile, The Boys of Winter, It’s Not About the Bike).
