Game Day Open Thread: vs. Dallas

So, lunch-time and post-lunch meetings nuked the idea of me putting together a game day notes post. Let’s see how this goes.

My open thread thought: Brad May is a scratch tonight against a team that includes Steve Ott. Heads up, Wings… Check the most recent news before talking about scratches because news from earlier in the day may no longer be correct. My mistake. (Updated)

  1. Actually, May is in and Maltby is out – according to Khan.

    Michael,

Thanks–I've now seen the latest. I was going off a tweet from Bruce MacLeod earlier today (which has now been deleted…nice, Bruce).

  3. CURSE THAT MACLEOD!

In fairness, all day yesterday, the Wings practiced with May working in on the fourth line, so it all signs pointed to him being a scratch tonight. I think Babcock heard the chorus of "WTF" and thought that an enforcer-less lineup against Ott, et all, was not a wise choice.

Bets on how long Brad May gets his ass kicked tonight?

  5. CURSE MY INTERNET CONNECTION, TOO!

    Sorry about the double post.

The NHL is so lame. The only sport in which you can shoot the puck directly into the net, have the whistle blow 3 seconds after the puck is laying in the net, and have instant replay, and still not be credited with a goal. So you're telling me he meant to blow the whistle while May was shooting it? It wasn't a freaking rebound even, my God. How can that ref say with a straight face that the whistle blew so the play was dead? I don't even care that we lost by 2, I am just so sick of this crap happening to the Wings repeatedly. I watch every game on Versus and I never see this crap in any game except in Wings games. I'm not crying conspiracy, I'm just sick and tired of the pathetically low standards NHL officials are held to. When Toronto called, how do they not just tell him that's a goal, count it? There's no reason to even ask him if he meant to blow the whistle when the puck when straight into the net on a freaking shot.

The NHL, where officials get to decide who scores and wins.

    John, et al (presumably)

Watched what will/should? go down as the blown call of the season with an apt full of Wings fans here in Chicago. Horrific. As it went in, and before it was ruled officially a no goal, I was joking that the refs would go up to Lid' and say, "well yes, it was clearly in, but its against league policy to acknowledge a Brad May goal." When it was officially waved off, everyone gave me the stinkeye. Good thing we were in my apt or I would have been sent home. Just 'ugh' or 'whatev'. Maybe this galvanizes the team more.

  8. Justin says:

Joke call. Joke officials. Joke rules. Joke league.

  9. Megan Saler says:

Why do we stick around and deal with the NHL again? Oh yeah, because we love the Wings and it certainly isn't their fault.

On a side note, my cat just stretched and fell off the couch head first. It made me laugh and now I'm a little less angry. It's the simple things in life…
