Wings 1, Avalanche 3

I’m deferring to George on this one. Preach it, brother. If you read nothing else about the Wings today, read that.

I will add this, though: If Jimmy Howard wants to be a goalie in this League, he’s got to stop that second goal. Pathetic. I’m not saying that’s why the Wings lost, but giving up a go-ahead goal on a shot like that is not what Detroit needs from you, Jimmy.

Oh, and one other thing: Todd Bertuzzi got robbed of a goal. Stupid officials.

This team needs a win Tuesday like nobody’s business.

I'm beginning to wonder if either one of our goalies has the ability to win games. Ozzie's been great in the past, but I'm beginning to wonder if his time's done. Howard just isn't ready for the NHL, we saw that on last night's second goal.

I know that we've got problems in other spots as well. Our offense wasn't scoring last night, and our defense hasn't been playing it's best. The biggest problem in both of these areas is that the Wings don't play a 60 minute game, like Babcock said.

But I'm beginning to wonder if we need to trade for a new goalie. I love Ozzie and I hate to even think about it, but, I think it may be necessary.

I think we need to get Bert playing with on a line with 1 of Hank, Pav, or Fil at center. He looks like he's ready to explode, but playing with Drapes and Cleary isn't gonna help that. I'd also think about splitting up that 2nd line. Leino is starting to look invisible and Williams can't score if he's not on the PP it seems. We need to get Fil out there with someone who can score. Maybe Cleary/Fil/Bert as the 2nd line. I think Leino is one of those guys like Hudler where he may be more effective on the 3rd line with less ice time because he'd be playing against the other teams' 3rd or 4th line.

    I think I'd go with:

    Pav/Hank/Homer

    Cleary/Fil/Bert

    Leino/Helm/Williams

    Random 4th line rotation

As for the game last night, way too much time on the PP to not score. One thing I noticed is our point men seemed to be trying to snipe corners, and subsequently missing the net resulting in an easy clear, instead of getting the puck on net and allowing for tips and rebounds.

Also, I'm usually not critical of Babcock, but did ANYONE but him not realize that pulling the goalie on an offensive zone faceoff with 2 seconds left in a PP is a very bad idea. During the timeout I said to myself if we lose this faceoff, game over. Sure enough, I was right, all the Avs had to do was flip the puck to center ice for an easy goal. They should have had Howard 20 feet out and only come to the bench if we won the faceoff.

The major difference this year is that while in the past the Wings could look bad and still win, this year they can look pretty good and still lose.

No more excuses, no more playing well enough to win, time to just win, alot, now.

Illitch needs to get rid of both Babcock and Holland before it's too late. Quite obvious at this point. Two imposters.

The second goal was deflected off of Lebda's stick. Howard moved to his left cuz he thought the puck was heading that way. However it knicks off the stick, hits the inside of the post and goes in. Being a goalie myself, I can tell you that once you react to the shot if it does get tipped, you're gonna have to throw out a part of your body to stop the shot. There was nothing Howard could do cuz both goals he allowed were perfectly placed shots. Overall the Wings offense has to score more than one goal on 49 shots and 7 PP opportunities.
