An Unexpected Smile

I’ve been searching the Internet, wondering what I’m gonna read all summer, when I came across something that made me smile.

We will not have to worry about McCreary making dumb calls and no-calls during the finals or even the playoffs next year. Why? Well, that’s the wonderful part. McCreary is retiring after the regular season. The last game of the 2009-2010 season will be the last time we see Bill McCreary.

You should be very thankful that McCreary and company gave you 23 power plays while the Pens had only 14. You take out Game 5, and it's still 14-12 Detroit. Also, you should be thankful about the non-calls on Zetterberg covering the puck in his own crease in Games 1 and 2. Both plays should have been at least a minor penalty.

There were plenty of borderline penalties that were not called for both teams. That's always the case. But after 7 games, the better team won.

    2 words – SOUR GRAPES

Losers make excuses after they lose. The truth hurts – the Wings lost fair and square. Cry me a river.

The writer of this blog never specified which team benefited from the calls, Ivan. There were horrible calls made on not only the Wings and Pens throughout the finals; there were also other horrible calls in  other rounds by McCreary's crew.

Perhaps some basic reading comprehension classes would benefit your analysis of the situation. You're the one harping about the finals, not Megan.

    Ivan,

As Mark points out, I never mentioned the Wings being hampered by bad calls, nor did I give any indication that this was the reason they lost. The only mention of the finals was that in the future, there will be no McCreary in there. For the record, I've always disliked McCreary, whether it be in the regular season or playoffs. Even when watching games the Wings are not in, I've disliked a lot of his calls.

I could start a debate here about the number of calls made for each team, but I really don't feel like it. That's in the past, nothing can be changed, and we'd never agree. So what's the point, really? My post is obviously about the future, where my mind is also now. The past cannot be changed. The Wings lost. The didn't win sixteen games. That's all there is to it.

In the future, McCreary will not be officiating ANY playoff games. That's what this post is about, so can we please stay focused?

Man, I still find it unbelievable the number of Pens fans who are SOUR GRAPES after they won. Get over yourselves guys.

Thanks for the news! Megan, give the Penguin SOBS what they deserve. As any hockey fans know not all penalties are equal. A penalty 4 minutes into the game doesn't equal one when the game is 4-2 or 4-0. Pittsburgh got a lot of PP opportunites within the first 10 minutes of the game and whenever Detroit took a 1 goal lead (or 2 in game 4). Detroit got powerplays when the game was over (with the exception of game 7).

Pittsburgh fans just suck in general. They clearly suck as fans because they don't support teams unless they are doing good. For proof see the Penguins in the late 90's and the Pirates. Real fans stick with teams  through thick and thin like we did with the Tigers and do with Lions.
