Osgood Visibly Hurting in Game 4

Update (10:20 PM): Osgood ended up finishing the game and seemed fine in the third period. It looks like the Wings may have dodged a bullet there. After the game, Babcock told John Keating that nothing was wrong with Oz, but I do think it’s something to keep an eye on. - Matt

After 40 update: It’s 5-5 in a bit of a wild one, but the most worrisome thing is the fact that Chris Osgood is obviously hurting. He hasn’t been the same tonight since the start, but he started looking worse in the second period as he began to favor his left leg.

He went down awkwardly at one point in Game 3, so it’s possible his issues tonight stem from that. With Columbus crashing the net frequently tonight, however, he could have tweaked something in this one as well. Here’s hoping Babcock takes him out for the third period so he can start resting up for the second round. It’s more important that Osgood gets healthy than for him to finish this game.

The defense, by the way, has got to be better. Offensively, the team has been solid, but they dont seem to be taking this one quite as seriously.

Me thinks Ozzie got a shot between periods. A week to heal up is just what the doctor ordered.

  2. Pete K says:

Did Datsyuk get hurt at some point? ESPN says he only played 16 minutes (compared to 22 for Hank) but that can't be right, unless I missed something.

  3. John W. says:

Hey Pete, no Pav didn't get hurt, Hossa, on the same line as Pav, also played 16mins, Hank musta been doing some serious double shifting I guess. It does seem weird that Hank would have played 6 mins more than those guys though, unless it's an error…

  4. Matt Saler says:

Hank was the forward of choice to go out against Nash, who played 21:31, so his ice time isn't all that surprising on the surface. Nash did get out against the fourth and third lines a few shifts, though, so Hank shouldn't quite match him. Also, he's apparently got a "tight groin," or so said Mickey Redmond, so you'd think he'd be getting less ice time. Not going to argue with the results though!

I think Datsyuk's fine. I'm more concerned about Osgood, but maybe they'll get  a long rest if Philly keeps fighting to stay alive, or Chicago/Calgary goes long.

  5. John W. says:

Good news is Chicago/Calgary got 2 days off between Games 4 and 5, so that series can't possibly end until Monday in Calgary. I'd have to think the Wings won't start until probably Thursday, unless Chi/Cal goes 7, then even later…
