Mickey Redmond used those words to describe the play of Chris Osgood tonight, and while I’m still on the high of a Game 1 win, they feel like an understatement. Ozzie was incredible. Video of his comments to the media after the game showed a goaltender with real intensity and a major chip on his shoulder. Great to see.

His teammates, particularly the third line, weren’t that far behind on the spectacular scale. First ten minutes aside, it was a great start that included a quick “switch flip” that I don’t think many of us saw coming. I knew the Wings could turn it on, but I never thought it come just 10 minutes into the playoffs. I really thought the Jackets would pull out the Game 1 win over the Wings’ continued funk. As it turns out, it took just half a period of getting knocked around to wake the Red Machine up.

It’s one of those times where it feels great to be wrong.

The best thing about tonight? Kirk Maltby’s near goal in the final minute. This team kept the skate to the throat to the end. If they keep that up, my series length prediction’s likely off, too.

Last thing: Meg just said, “I think it’s really good for us to score four goals on Mason right away.” Demythifying the kid, that’s what that was.
