Hockey Night in Blogdom for NYT’s Slap Shots

Jeff Klein of the New York Times’ Slap Shots blog asked me to take part in this years Hockey Night in Blogdom Partisan Previews feature. The Columbus/Detroit series piece is here. I kept my tongue firmly in my cheek, unlike my Columbus counterpart.

Sigh, another dis on Hockeytown from the Columbus guy. As Gretz already found out, I'm getting SO tired of people talking smack about our fans, our city, and our state…

  2. Matt Saler says:

Yeah, my guess is those will keep coming. The blogger at "A Shot From the Point" had a really tasteless joke about Detroit posted earlier today, but it's gone now.

Great comments on the Gretz post, by the way. The Wings' ticket sales issues are a problem, but you'd think the cause would be apparent now that everyone recognizes we're all in a major recession, not just Michigan. Apparently not.

  3. John W. says:

Yeah they will keep coming. I remember a particularly nasty one last year before the Avs series from one of their beat writers. Sweeping them never felt so good! Speaking of that sweep, looks like Theodore is back to it again, 4 goals on 21 shots last night, yuck!

  5. The "Hockeytown" quip …. original.  How can he mention the most valid of reasons for the lack of ticket sales (economy) and then brush it off later in the same sentence?  What's so hard to understand that people around that area are suffering job-wise more than any other American city, and thus people locally aren't going breaking the bank to see the BLUE JACKETS in ROUND 1??  Team loyalty isn't judged solely on local fans, or the number of bandwagon fans that get all lathered up around playoff time when they were nowhere to be found earlier in the year (ahem).  Try opening your eyes and see some of the fan devotion spread across the country via this Internet thing before questioning how "spoiled" we are.  Prick.

    Brilliant TDS!

  7. Jane says:

Thank you for promoting the classiness and respectful attitude of most Wings fans!  Great job!

    …TDS: FTW!
