Conklin to start Thursday, Rafalski Out

It looks like Conklin’s  getting rewarded for winning, as he’ll be in net against St. Louis on Thursday. Makes sense, since they need to balance trying to get Osgood’s game back on track and keeping Conklin sharp in case he needs to step in.

Also, some of the team’s big names were given the day off as the late-season forced rests begin.

Brian Rafalski will get forced rest for a different reason: he’s out against St. Louis with a groin injury.

Babcock has to see if Conklin is ready to get on a roll. Osgood hasn't played well enough lately to automatically get the playoff nod, and I think if Conklin gets on a really good roll, he might play himself into the #1 position. Although I think if Conks doesn't play stellar, Osgood is going to become the default guy for the playoffs, just based on experience alone. Obviously its not good that there is still a question at this point in the season. I'm at the point where I don't give a crap about experience, I just want someone, anyone, to step up and say "this job is mine, I'm going to take us to the Cup."

I hope Rafalski is o.k. The mysterious "groin injury" could be just about anything.

    Me too, hockeychic.

The fact that he was able to finish the game on Friday after the pain started in the first period is encouraging, though. It's possible that he would be able to play if it were the playoffs and that this is more precautionary than anything.
