Update (04. Mar, 7:14 PM): Hossa’s got both a sore neck and a bruised knee. He’s day-to-day. (Khan) - Matt
Update (04. Mar, 4:24 PM): It looks like Hossa will sit out the Colorado game since Derek Meech is in. - Matt
Update (11:56 PM): In the comments of IwoCPO’s post on this, Paul Kukla posted something I’d missed in the post-game:
Babcock mentioned after the game that Hossa will probably be on the team flight to Colorado and asked the Dr. if he could play tomorrow.
I’d be shocked Hossa plays in Colorado. - Matt

Update (10:47 PM): The latest from the FS Detroit crew: Hossa is still in the hospital, but tests are negative. It sounds like he really might be okay. - Matt
Update (10:01 PM): Helene St. James has more (from Mark Howe, of all people):
I just spoke to Wings scout Mark Howe, a long-time NHL player, and he said he didn’t think the hit looked that bad – he said that most likely, what Hossa felt was a stinger, a temporary numbness.
She promises to provide more updates when they come. - Matt
Update (9:23 PM): Hossa was taken to the hospital as a precautionary measure in addition to being held out of the rest of the game. - Matt
Update (8:59 PM): The FS Detroit crew just relayed a message from the Wings saying that Hossa is being held out as a precaution. He never lost consciousness. That’s definitely good news. Still, my guess is he’ll miss a little more time on this one, since he was only a couple shifts into a return from a neck injury. - Matt
Update (8:57 PM): The St. Louis crowd cheered as Hossa was brought off the ice on a stretcher. He waved to the crowd as they took him down the tunnel. His helmet was still on.
Piet Van Zant was talking to Babcock as the camera cut away for the start of play. The Wings got a power play for Polak’s hit, which was deemed roughing. - Matt
Update (8:54 PM): Hossa’s being put on a stretcher now. The medical personnel of both teams is around him and he’s not visible. He was moving after the hit, having put his hands to his head as he spun away from the boards.
Polak’s hit was a hockey play. It was a little high, but not specifically dirty. Maybe a little unnecessary, but not malicious.
To Polak’s credit, he was immediately concerned about Hossa’s condition. – Matt
Marian Hossa is down in the St. Louis end after Roman Polak bumped him and sent him headfirst into the endboards. Hossa had just released a shot and was off-balance. He hit the base of the boards basically with the top of his helmet. A stretcher is currently on the ice next to him. It’s just under five and a half minutes into the game.
More as it comes.
