Update (1:55 AM): Babcock’s post-game discussion with the FSD crew indicated that Franzen “tightened up,” which may describe a groin issue. – Matt
Johan Franzen has left the Wings/Sharks game tonight with what the FSD crew termed a lower-body injury. He will not return.
It sounds like the injury came as an indirect result of the after-buzzer hit by Joe Thornton on Franzen. IwoCPO pointed out in the A2Y liveblog that Franzen stumbled in the scrum that followed and then limped away.
Franzen did play 13 seconds in the third, so he tested out the injury and decided it wasn’t working. That may be taken as a positive sign. If it were a serious injury, chances are he wouldn’t have attempted to continue playing.
