The Official Blog Turns Eyes to Web

Update (1:06 PM): A correction: Hockeytown Blog linked out to Kukla’s Korner yesterday as well as Puck Daddy today, and last week pointed to Red Wings and Beer. Thanks to the official blog’s Shannon Paul for pointing that out in the comments.

My apologies for foolishly shooting this post off too fast and thus getting that wrong. “Living out the blogger stereotype, you’re doing it right!” you might say.

Shannon, I appreciate your promise to include a “healthy dose” of links to both mainstream online publications and blogs. After nearly six years of blogging the Wings, I’m thrilled at this new level of openness.  - Matt

The official team blog has started highlighting worthwhile online pieces regarding the Wings in a new feature called “Red Wings on the web.”

It’s great to see a team-sponsored outlet reaching out to the ‘net, but I couldn’t help but notice that only one of the links so far was to a blog (Puck Daddy). It sounds self-serving to say this, but, as a way of further reaching out to fans, I’d love to see some attention given to the excellent Wings bloggers out there who have been paying tribute to their team for years.

  1. Matt,

I’m glad that you support our decision to start posting links to worthwhile online pieces. The choice to include certain posts is mainly an issue of timing as well as pieces of interest that might otherwise be missed. The assertion that only one of the links I’ve posted is to a blog simply isn’t true.

Yesterday I credited, and linked to Kukla’s Korner for the story about the mother and son from West Virginia who trekked to Detroit and Chicago for the Winter Classic. Also, last week I posted a video clip of Datsyuk that came as a result of visiting Dennis Dubay’s “Red Wings and Beer” blog.

I just started rounding up links to post on the Hockeytown Blog yesterday (Monday) and since I read several blogs, as well as mainstream online publications, I promise to include a healthy mix of each.

I really do appreciate the feedback!

    Thanks again,
    Shannon Paul

  2. No worries, Matt. Thanks for posting the correction. I’m sure we will be in touch.
