I can see him becoming the next McCarty and scoring a beautiful Cup-clinching goal in the playoffs…or at least Ducks-eliminating.
I can see that too. It wouldn't be as much of a surprise as Darren's goal was, though!
Strange, tho, he is the only Wing I can remember that seems to have a black eye on a regular basis. What does that mean?
It means he's a battler like we haven't seen in Detroit in a while. The prototypical Babcockian forward.

I was at JLA last Friday vs. the Avs. Cleary played with more energy than most and still appears to be under the radar of most defensive minded teams. I was SURE he was going to score, although he never did.

Much like Hudler on many nights, he is always a millisecond away from glory, yet sometimes he connects.

I wish them all well in negotiations, as a family man I can understand there is MUCH to consider.

Since Cleary broke out last season, he's been a Hockeytown hero. I can't imagine the Wings without him and sincerely hope he stays. Cleary has provided plenty of memorable moments:

- His first career hat trick
- Leveling Phaneuf in the playoffs and then setting up Draper for a goal
- His playoff penalty shot against Calgary
- Fighting the hated Chris Pronger

There's more, but those are the first that come to mind. I can see him becoming the next McCarty and scoring a beautiful Cup-clinching goal in the playoffs...or at least Ducks-eliminating. Let's hope he and the Wings can work something out.

Great point, Baroque. I hadn't thought of it that way. Hopefully his agent won't poison his thinking.

I think, if Cleary had previously signed a large contract in his career, it would be a bit easier for him to accept less to stay. The fact that this is the first time he'll be able to get a large contract to give himself and his family security makes the choice a lot harder.

I don't envy the man. He has a bit of thinking to do.
