Behold the new Red Wings jerseys

Update (15. Aug, 9:10 PM): The Free Press has some more details on the jerseys, including the news that the “C” and “A’s” will be on the right rather than the left this season. Apparently, the multiple panels of the new design dictated the move. You can see what it’ll look like in one of the pictures accompanying the article.

Another change:

The bottom: Instead of a square cut, it’s rounded, and the back flap is a little longer than the front, like a polo shirt. So instead of a solid white stripe around the bottom, it’s more like two half-moons, front and back.

More effort to streamline the whole thing, I guess, though it could imply that the idea of tucking the jerseys in hasn’t totally died. Just wait for that NHL Fan Faceoff survey question (and answer “NO!” if given the option).

The letter change will be a little weird at first, but it’s not a terrible change. Overall, I’m pleased with the route the Wings took on this. Definitely more sober than some teams. - Matt

This is no message board mock-up, folks. It’s the real thing.

That’s just a picture of the replica version, not the authentic one, but there isn’t any real difference between the two as far as coloring is concerned. The material on the authentics will obviously be different, though. It’s a relief to see that there are hardly any changes to the overall look. I can definitely live with the new collar.

Pre-order yours by calling (313) 396-7583 or by printing off this PDF file and faxing it to the Wings at (313) 396-7010. It’s $130 for a blank jersey and $155 for a customized version.

PHEW. I can live with this… but is that a reebok logo on the left sleeve? Don’t care for that.

why can’t they come out with a new logo aren’t they due for one, i would like to see a front view of the trie with like demon wings coming out instead of the dove? wing, and make it black and red jersey for the dark one :)

    BDH,

Most jerseys I’ve seen have the logo of the maker on the sleeve there. My Koho Zetterberg jersey has it, as does my CCM Yzerman jersey.

    Slave,

I personally think the Wings’ logo is fine the way it is. I would hate to see them change it. The Winged Wheel is one of the most recognizable logos in sports and is the best of them all, in my opinion.

i just think it needs more, not sure what exactly not as much as say buffalo’s jersey but it just looks ‘plain’ to me

and my reebok zetterberg jersey looks pretty good except for where they put the “a” it looks weak, is the practice jersey though but it still looks sweet love the white/red logo on the black/white jersey

    Slave,

I think one of the biggest reasons the Wings haven’t altered their logo in years and haven’t added a third jersey is that they don’t need to. some teams need to “refresh” their logos or jerseys, or add a third version in order to generate sales. It’s been years since the Wings had a problem selling merchandise, so they haven’t had to stoop to those kinds of marketing ploys. The only reason the jersey has changed at all now is the NHL mandated it.

Thank god! No real difference at all besides the collar.

I agree with you Matt, the Winged Wheel is one of the most widely known and acclaimed logos in sports. There is no need to change it, or the colours IMO.

I believe there will be no more 3rd jerseys anymore-those that had them won’t use them.

Keep the log the way it is!! Plain and simple is good. All of these other teams change their jerseys every other year, with special ones, etc… they’re all pretty ugly IMHO, and makes it confusing to keep track of. Wings have the best sweaters and logo in the league, hands down!

“log” in my last post… was meant to be “logo”. sorry ’bout that.

i agree the wings logo is good i just find the red sweater kinda of plain sometimes, maybe i just want a 3rd jersey to add to the 2 they already got hell even if they just used their black jerseys, seen them wear it an exhibition game against toronto in 02 i think

I say they pimp out the uniforms like they do in Europe. Sell out every square inch like they do in Nascar, and allow the teams to use that money to increase the salary cap. Better marketing=better players. Solves all the issues if you think about it. If, let’s say, Pepsi puts a patch on the back of the Red Wings jersey, you can bet your bippy they would do WHATEVER it takes to get people to watch the sport. More spectators = more revenue = real network coverage.

Corporate logo’s are one way to get rid of the HORRIBLE coverage from Versus. Lol….then EVERY player would be locked up like Rick DiPietro :)

    …just a thought.

Die Hard fan here. Jerseys still looking good. I hate when teams do drastic changes to thier jerseys. Like back when the Pistons changed thiers to different logo/color. I’m glad they changed it back. Don’t mind the reebok logo really. It’s small.
