Brian,

Yeah, I'm not sure Samuelsson was the right choice there. He has a hard shot, but that's for the power play or something, not a shootout. Calder would have been an interesting choice.

You make a good point. You'd think Babcock would have sent out the best lineup in order to secure a win and those important points. With the Preds losing in OT, that extra lost point might come back to haunt them.

Aaron,

Yes, Fox shows games every once and a while.

Samuelsson was horrible on his shootout attempt. He shot early, and straight at the goaltender. Next time, Babcock should give Calder a spot instead. That was the bad part about losing Williams, he was a great shootout player.

Precious points to be giving up when it's playoff time and we're facing the Sharks because we ended up short of passing Nashville.

I think Bertuzzi will end up on a line with Lang, though they may use him with Datsyuk and Zetterberg on occasion.

Yaeh, the Jackets played a smart game. The Wings just looked dead. Not sure why, since they do have something to play for.

Chelios played in Vancouver Saturday night, but flew home Sunday for a rest. He did not play in Calgary on Tuesday.

The thing about Calder that is so impressive is his work ethic. He's always busting his butt out there and that creates chances. He's great.

Cleary looked like he wanted to start scoring again, showing hands we haven't seen from him in months.

Brian, the third period was pretty exciting, but I agree on the first and second. Not exactly thrilling.

Thornton definitely seems like a second-half player. That's a scary thought when it looks like the Sharks could be the Wings' first round opponent.

I think you deserve to have been paid by the hour to watch last night's game. From the few times I stopped by FSN, it looked incredibly boring.

I was following a few other games last night, notably Penguins/Isles, San Jose/Atlanta, and NJ/Tampa. Boy is Thornton picking up the assists: he had 3 last night, and leads the NHL with 82 on the season. He's on a pace his past few games to get over 100 assists AND pass Crosby in the NHL scoring race.

I agree with your take on the Holmstrom/Bertuzzi/Datsyuk line... Holmstrom and Bertuzzi play a similar role, and they seemed to be getting in one another's way quite a bit last night.
Once Zetterberg returns, I'd love to see Bert on a line with Henrik and Pavel... although I don't know if it's a good idea to take Holmstrom out of that line. He could play the same role on another line that's similar...

I thought one of the keys to the game for the Pooh Jackets was that they didn't take any stupid penalties... and they beat Detroit at their conservative, puck control game over the first two periods. Detroit should have opened things up earlier than the third period... they had way more shots on goal and good scoring chances in the third, once they opened things up more.

Also, I thought last game they said that Chelios was being give a long break? He played last night. Or did I miss something??

Calder continues to impress me... I always liked him when he was a Blackhawk. I just don't think he had much motivating him in Philly. And you're right on Cleary... his presence was obvious last night. He flies all over and is always where the puck is, kind of like Draper.

GO WINGS!!!!!!!
