John, he may have skill at both ends of the ice, but his habit of taking dumb penalties coupled with his mouth cancel out most of his value in my mind, at least as far as the Wings go. If you mean Avery sticks up for his teammates by fighting, good for him. I bet they don't appreciate having to kill off his penalties nearly as much.

If he was so popular in LA, why'd they cut him a year ago? Sure they brought him back (under a new coach, I believe), but that doesn't mean he was popular in the locker room.

avery is a really good two way player, anyone who really watches hockey and the kings knows this. he is a great addition to any team. he will be missed in la. and for the comment of not sticking up for players.... go ask eric belanger or jr and they will tell you, you dont know anything about the kings and avery.

Avery doesn't stick up for his teammates, he takes penalties. One thing going for him is that he often draws penalties as well, but other than that, I can't think of anything that makes him worthwhile.

The Red Wings currently have no tough neck player who doesn't let shit happen... Sean Avery is just the player the Wings need...
