Apparently, the Wings have also signed some guy named Brendan Brooks, also for the Griffins (www.griffinscentral.com). He's a fighter who scores clutch goals.

I realize that a lot of people are upset about the types of players Ken Holland has been signing right now, but I'm quite excited about it. We really need guys on the Griffins roster, as their team was basically decimated at the end of this past season. They lost Donald MacLean, Bryan Helmer, Eric Manlow, Clay Wilson, Travis Richards, Jiri Hudler, Tomas Kopecky, Darryl Bootland and Nate DiCasmiro, and Kent McDonell is unknown. Plus, Brett Lebda signed a one-way contract. That's like half the team. No wonder Kenny thought it would be a good idea to sign some guys for Grand Rapids.

Last I heard, Jiri was in Dallas trying to get a doctor to clear him to play. I don't think he had any luck and I doubt the League or the Wings would have let him play regardless. Apparently, they still don't know what caused the problem. I gather he's doing fine other than that. He has to be miserable, feeling healthy but being unable to play, probably ever again.
