I knew Nick wouldn't play hardball with the Wings, despite all the anxiety that he would. It wasn't realistic to hope he'd take $6 million or less but the Wings come out of this with a good deal.

Hopefully Holland will be able to use the extra money and attract some of the types of players the team needs.

This is a good signing. I know lots of people were hoping Lidstrom would sign for $7 million or less. That would have obviously been nice but Lidstrom is worth the $7.6 million he will make. The only hole in his game is he isn't a real phsyical presence, however you can sign a rugged Dman and pair him with Lidstrom. Good move by Holland and Lidstrom to get the deal done. If Detroit was only to sign one of their UFA this is the one guy I would pick.
