Wings 1, Canucks 4

I was unable to watch the game last night so there will be no summary. I am sorry but I think I can speak for Brian and Christy when I say that updates may be a bit sparse in the next week or so, maybe longer, as the semester winds down and long-term assignment due-dates come up. I just had too much to do last night and couldn’t justify spending 3 hours watching the game. Given the result, I don’t know that I regret it too much.

VanCanOpEd’s take on the game

The Canucks dealt the Wings their first loss of the season and now they’ve handed them their first road loss. The Wings have the opportunity to even up the season series with the two remaining games but I would not want to face Vancouver in the playoffs right now.

Update (7:48 PM ET): Canucks fan hoopsjunky has some notes on the game here.

Also true. That is a concern. However, I believe Babcock will address it. The Wings will get it together in order to compete with the stronger teams. Still, would the Wings be better off it they had lost to those teams lesser teams? Those wins seem to pad their stats but they also serve as training grounds and preparation for the better teams. If the Wings didn’t have such a big goal differential your point would be more valid.

The Canucks have lost to their fair share of lesser teams this year: the slumping Flames, the reduced Avs.

The Wings’ 8-0 record against Central Division opponents may not be that impressive given the quality of those opponents but I’d rather have that than the Canucks 4-5-2 record against Northwest Division opponents. Their 0-2-0 record versus the Flames and 1-3 record against the Avs would be particularly troubling for me if I were a Canucks fan.

Obviously the NW Division is a tough one (the Wings are only 2-2-1 against teams from it, for example) but if the Canucks are so good, they ought to be doing a bit better than that. All of their losses have come in that division.

There’s Still time to turn that around when the Nucks win the SC this season.
