I believe they have to get a deal done as soon as possible. That way, they can fix things such as the on-ice product and how they market the game in time for next year. This coming season has got to be spectacular, if the NHL has any chance of making it here in the US after this debacle. They need to come out with a bang and work on getting it right so people will get excited about the sport again. If they wait too long to iron out a deal, they will run out of time to do the above and they'll end up with a bunch of games no one will watch. At that rate, a new CBA wouldn't be of any help.
