Tonight the Stanley Cup Finals begin at 8 ET in New Jersey. I’m picking the Ducks because I really think they can win this series, as long as Giguere plays like he has and as long as he gets the defensive support he’s been getting. I think the Ducks have a slight offensive edge because they are slightly more offensive than the Devils. The Devils are great defensively so it will be tough for the Ducks to score but they scored against the Wings and Stars so they should be able to get 1-2 goals a game against New Jersey. That’ll be all they’ll need if Giguere plays like he has all postseason. Brodeur has played great too but the Ducks seem to be a team of destiny this year and are getting every break. It’d be a shame if that all ended now. Anaheim has had 10 days off but the Devils played on Friday and will be a lot more tired. The time-off, though, might not be a good thing for the Ducks. Sometimes too much time off causes rusty-ness and loss of focus. I’m not too worried about that with the Ducks because they’ve had a lot of time off these playoffs and haven’t missed a beat. There won’t be much scoring and it will be a long and boring series but I think the Ducks will pull out and raise the Cup on or before June 9th. I’m not sure that I like the fact that the Cup will have the words “Mighty Ducks of Anaheim” engraved on it if the Ducks win but it’s better than “New Jersey Devils” for the 3rd time, in my opinion. Plus, it makes it easier for me, as a Red Wings fan, to justify the Early Exit if the Ducks win the Cup. Even if no one else around the league will believe that argument……
