In a very frustrating game, the Wings lost 2-1 in 3OT to the Ducks off a goal by Paul Kariya. Shanny scored the only Wings goal. A very boring game until the 3OTs, both teams scored in the first and didn’t do much after that. The Wings killed off a huge 5-on-3 and should have gained some momentum from that but they didn’t turn it on until OT. They had a lot of shots on Giguere (64) but not very many were that dangerous. The Wings dominated in OT but couldn’t score. Luc looked to have scored but the play was reviewed and the goal was not allowed since it hit the cross bar and did not go in. Bykov had a great game and made a great play on Ozolinsh to stop the Ducks from scoring in OT. The only consolation I have is that the Wild beat the Avs (and the Devils were the only top seeded team to win their first game). The Ducks really did not deserve to win this game. I expect the Wings to bounce back next game and finish this up in 5. They just need to play physical and get traffic in front of the net. Next up: Game 2 on Saturday at 3.
